The Spencer County softball team rallied to beat Collins 5-3 in 8 innings Thursday night and claim the top seed in next week's 30th District Tournament.
With the win the Bears (14-14, 2-1) tied the Titans (18-15, 2-1) for the best record in the four-team district, but Spencer earned the No. 1 seed by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker.
The Bears' victory over Collins also means that Anderson County (14-13, 1-2) is the No. 3 seed and Shelby County (7-24, 1-2) is the No. 4 seed in the tourney that begins Monday at Spencer County.
Here are the complete pairings:
6 p.m. - (1) Spencer County vs. (4) Shelby County; 8 p.m. - (2) Collins vs. (3) Anderson County.
6 p.m. - Championship.
It definitely sets up some interesting semifinal match-ups. Shelby County beat Spencer County 4-2 on April 3 in the game that counted toward the district standings, but the Bears won the rematch 4-0 May 3 in Taylorsville.
Meanwhile Collins beat Anderson County 4-2 in 8 innings April 16 in Lawrenceburg.
