Two Shelbyville manufacturing plants received good news Thursday from state economic development officials, who granted them preliminary approval for expansion projects.
Katayama American Company, Inc., on Midland Industrial, is planning a $2.1 million expansion of its plant, which will mean adding 22 new jobs with an hourly wage of about $20 per hour. The plant currently has 245 employees.
Mark Baker, vice president of Katayama, said the expansion is planned for the end of the year, and the new jobs should be available soon after that.
