Two barn fires in the county have left horses and dozens of goats dead.

The Shelby County Fire Department was on the scene at 6 a.m. Saturday for a barn fire on Zaring Mill Road.

The barn housed about 70 goats, but only about 15 were saved, according to assistant chief Jeff Ivers.

“Somebody driving by saw the smoke and stopped and alerted the homeowners,” he said. “They got about 15 of them out, but by the time we got there it was fully engulfed.”

The barn was a complete loss.
